Gangtok – The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, unveiled a comprehensive set of education initiatives on Thursday, outlining a strategic roadmap that aims to position the state as a premier education hub by the year 2035. The announcement was made during a press conference at the state secretariat, where the CM emphasized the role of education in driving socio‑economic development.
The proposed measures cover a wide spectrum, including the modernization of school infrastructure, the rollout of digital classrooms, enhanced teacher‑training programmes, and the introduction of new vocational and skill‑based courses. The government also signalled plans to attract national and international academic institutions through incentives and collaborative partnerships, with a focus on research and innovation.
Officials said the initiatives will be implemented in phases, beginning with pilot projects in selected districts and expanding statewide over the next five years. The CM projected that by 2035, Sikkim will host a network of world‑class institutions, increased student enrollment, and greater employment opportunities for local graduates, thereby strengthening the state’s knowledge economy.
