The Rajasthan High Court has turned down a petition by a CLAT candidate seeking to alter his reservation category after the exam results were announced.
The Rajasthan High Court dismissed a petition filed by a candidate who appeared for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) and sought to change his reservation category after the results were declared. The applicant argued that the category assigned to him during the admission process did not reflect his actual eligibility, and requested the court to direct the authorities to re‑classify him.
The bench examined the plea and found no legal basis to intervene in the admission authority's categorisation, noting that reservation categories are determined based on statutory guidelines and verified documentation. Consequently, the court ordered that the candidate's original reservation status remain unchanged.
Legal experts noted that courts generally refrain from altering administrative decisions related to educational admissions unless there is clear evidence of procedural irregularities or violation of law. The decision underscores the judiciary's stance on maintaining the integrity of reservation policies as applied by the CLAT conducting body.
The CLAT results, released earlier this month, continue to be used for admissions to undergraduate law programmes across participating National Law Universities, with the reservation framework remaining as initially published.
