Only One Teacher for 2,269 Madhya Pradesh Schools, Congress Demands Answers

Congress raised concerns over the presence of a single teacher in 2,269 schools across Madhya Pradesh, urging the state government to explain vacancies and present a timeline for improving teacher recruitment.
Congress leader Jitu Patwari highlighted a striking staffing shortfall in Madhya Pradesh, noting that 2,269 government schools across the state have only one teacher each. The figure was presented during a press briefing in Bhopal, where the opposition demanded an explanation from the state administration.
Patwari pointed out that the vacancy rate, coupled with a decline in school enrolments and rising dropout numbers, threatens the quality of education for thousands of children. He argued that the current teacher‑to‑student ratio is far below national standards and hampers effective learning.
The opposition called for a time‑bound roadmap that links education outcomes with employment opportunities, urging the government to outline concrete steps for filling vacant posts and improving infrastructure. Patwari emphasized that without swift action, the state's human capital development could suffer long‑term setbacks.
As of now, the Madhya Pradesh government has not issued an official response, leaving the issue pending further political and public scrutiny.
