Authorities in Nagaland reported that nine people died after drinking toxic liquor, and a raid recovered 470 bottles and beer cans.

Nagaland police confirmed that nine individuals lost their lives after consuming illicit liquor that was later found to be contaminated with toxic substances. The victims, whose identities have not been disclosed, were reported to have fallen ill shortly after drinking the alcohol, leading to fatal outcomes.

In a coordinated operation earlier this week, law‑enforcement teams seized a total of 470 bottles and several beer cans suspected to contain the poisonous brew. The raid targeted a local illicit liquor network that had been under surveillance for distributing unlicensed alcoholic products.

The state health department has launched an urgent investigation to determine the exact nature of the contaminant and to trace the source of the illegal stock. Officials have urged the public to avoid unregulated alcohol and have promised stricter enforcement against bootleg liquor operations.
