The Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled that veterinarians are entitled to the same time‑scale pay as other government professionals, rejecting claims that their services are ancillary.

In a recent judgment, the Madhya Pradesh High Court affirmed that veterinarians employed in the state’s government services are eligible for the standard time‑scale pay structure applicable to other professional cadres. The bench rejected a petition that sought to exclude veterinarians on the ground that they treat animals, which the petitioner described as "voiceless" and therefore not comparable to human‑focused services.

The court emphasized that veterinary work is integral to public health, livestock welfare and the agricultural economy, and therefore warrants parity with other professional groups. It held that the argument of discounting veterinary services lacks legal merit and runs contrary to the principle of equal remuneration for equal work.

By upholding the time‑scale pay, the ruling provides salary certainty for government veterinarians and reinforces their status as essential service providers within the state’s health and agricultural framework.
