The Rajasthan High Court has set a 30 November deadline for the state government to appoint a member to the Jodhpur permanent bench of the Rajasthan Civil Service Appellate Tribunal, warning that the Chief Secretary may have to assume the role if the vacancy remains unfilled.
The Rajasthan High Court issued a directive on Monday requiring the state administration to fill a vacant seat on the permanent bench of the Rajasthan Civil Service Appellate Tribunal (RCAT) in Jodhpur by 30 November. The order was delivered as part of a petition concerning the functioning of the tribunal.
The RCAT, which adjudicates service‑related disputes of Rajasthan’s civil servants, currently operates with a shortfall in its Jodhpur bench. The court noted that the absence of a full complement of members hampers timely disposal of cases and undermines the tribunal’s effectiveness.
In its ruling, the bench warned that if the government fails to appoint a qualified member within the stipulated period, the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan will be compelled to act as a member of the tribunal. This provision is intended to ensure that the appellate body remains functional while the vacancy is addressed.
State officials have not yet publicly commented on the deadline, but the order places pressure on the government to expedite the selection process and avoid administrative complications.
