On 10 August 2024, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh formally launched three new train services from Bhopal: the Bhopal‑Rewa, Bhopal‑Patna and a Kolkata‑Bhopal route. The inauguration took place at the Bhopal Railway Station, where the CM highlighted the state’s commitment to improving regional connectivity.
The Bhopal‑Rewa service covers a distance of approximately 200 kilometres, while the Bhopal‑Patna link spans around 600 kilometres, linking the state capital with the national capital’s eastern corridor. The Kolkata‑Bhopal route, a longer journey, aims to connect the eastern metropolis with central India.
To support the financial viability of these new services, the state government has earmarked Rs 10 lakh as viability gap funding for each route. This subsidy is intended to offset initial operational costs and ensure the trains can commence service without immediate commercial losses.
Transport officials expect the new routes to boost passenger movement, facilitate trade, and stimulate economic activity in the regions served. The launch marks a significant step in Madhya Pradesh’s broader strategy to enhance rail infrastructure and connectivity across the country.
