The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall today across seven districts in the Jabalpur and Sagar divisions, with the state receiving only 71% of its normal monsoon rainfall.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert that heavy rain is expected today across seven districts spread over the Jabalpur and Sagar divisions of Madhya Pradesh. The forecast covers districts such as Jabalpur, Seoni, Narsinghpur, Sagar, Damoh, Chhatarpur and Tikamgarh, where rain intensity could reach 30‑50 mm per hour.
State authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant, avoid low‑lying areas and secure outdoor objects that could be displaced by strong gusts. Local disaster management teams have been placed on standby to respond to any flooding or water‑logging incidents that may arise.
The warning comes as the state has recorded only about 71% of its average monsoon rainfall to date, indicating a slower‑than‑expected monsoon progression. Officials said the current spell of rain may provide some relief to water‑stressed regions but also cautioned that sudden downpours could exacerbate existing drainage challenges.
Residents are advised to monitor updates from the IMD and follow instructions from municipal bodies, especially in areas prone to flash floods and landslides.
