The Bihar government has requested DNA samples from families to help identify victims whose bodies were recovered following the recent floods in Nepal.

Patna, Bihar – In the wake of the devastating floods that struck Nepal earlier this month, authorities in Bihar have launched a DNA collection drive to identify the bodies recovered from the disaster zones. The state’s disaster management department has issued an appeal to relatives of the missing, asking them to submit DNA samples that can be matched with the remains found across the border.

Officials say the initiative is aimed at providing closure to families and ensuring accurate death registration. The DNA testing will be coordinated with Nepalese counterparts, with samples processed at designated laboratories in Bihar under the supervision of forensic experts.

The flood, which caused widespread loss of life and property in Nepal's Terai region, also displaced many residents who sought refuge in neighboring Indian states, including Bihar. While relief efforts continue, the DNA identification program underscores cross‑border cooperation in addressing the humanitarian fallout of the disaster.

The Bihar government has set up collection points in district headquarters and is urging families to respond promptly, emphasizing that timely DNA submission can expedite the identification process and facilitate official documentation for the deceased.
