The Central Pollution Control Board has activated Grap‑3 restrictions in Delhi to curb air pollution before the Diwali festivities, limiting construction and vehicular emissions.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CAQM) announced the enforcement of Grap‑3 level restrictions in Delhi as the city prepares for the Diwali celebrations. Under the Grap‑3 regime, activities that significantly contribute to particulate matter, such as construction work, demolition, and the use of diesel generators, are temporarily halted.
Transport authorities have also been instructed to tighten emission norms for heavy‑duty vehicles and to increase monitoring of roadside pollutants. The board warned that failure to comply could result in penalties as per the National Clean Air Programme.
Officials said the move aims to prevent the typical spike in air‑quality indices that historically follows the festival, protecting public health and ensuring a cleaner environment for the celebrations. The restrictions are expected to remain in force until the post‑Diwali period, after which a review will determine any further actions.
