A newly issued vinyl record in 2026 brings back the iconic Vande Mataram, originally captured on a 1905 gramophone, offering listeners a modern format for the historic anthem.
The music industry marked a cultural milestone this week with the launch of a 2026 vinyl edition of Vande Mataram, India’s beloved patriotic song. The record reproduces the melody that was first captured on a gramophone in 1905, bridging more than a century of audio technology.
Audio historians note that the original 1905 recording is one of the earliest examples of Indian national music preserved on mechanical media. By transferring the historic performance onto high‑fidelity vinyl, the new release aims to preserve the song’s original timbre while making it accessible to contemporary collectors and audiophiles.
The vinyl is being issued by a heritage label that specializes in archival projects, and it includes detailed liner notes outlining the song’s evolution from gramophone to modern formats. Early shipments have already reached major music stores in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, where enthusiasts are queuing to own a piece of musical history.
Industry observers suggest that the launch could spark renewed interest in analog formats for classic Indian recordings, highlighting the enduring appeal of Vande Mataram across generations.
