The state of West Bengal has reported full completion of field operations for Phase I of the 2024 census, marking a key milestone in the nationwide data collection drive.
Kolkata, Sept 17 — The West Bengal government announced that all field activities for Phase I of the 2024 Census of India have been completed across the state. The declaration was made by the State Census Officer during a briefing with officials of the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner.
Phase I, which involves door‑to‑door enumeration of households, began in early April and was slated to finish by the end of August. The state’s census teams, comprising enumerators and supervisors, reported that they had covered every village, town and urban ward, achieving the targeted 100% coverage ahead of the national deadline.
State authorities said the timely completion will facilitate swift data processing and analysis, enabling more accurate demographic, socio‑economic and housing statistics for policy planning. The next phase, which focuses on verification and data consolidation, is set to commence next month.
