The second and final phase of urban local body elections has started in Rajasthan, with voting underway in six major cities.
The Election Commission of India has opened polling stations for the second phase of Rajasthan's urban local body elections. Voters in six municipal corporations – Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur and Pali – are casting their ballots in what officials describe as a crucial test for both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress.
Security forces have been deployed across the cities after reports of clashes between supporters of the two major parties in several localities. Police said they are monitoring the situation closely to ensure a peaceful voting process.
Among the voters, a senior citizen who survived polio was seen marking his ballot, highlighting the inclusive nature of the democratic exercise. The election, which will determine control of municipal administrations, is expected to conclude later this week.
The final results are slated to be announced after the counting of votes, which will shape the political landscape of Rajasthan's urban governance for the next five years.
