Barman, a senior opposition member, claimed that the note, which could shed light on the circumstances of Dhankar’s death, was not presented to the assembly or the public.
According to Barman, the note was submitted to senior officials but was subsequently withheld, prompting him to demand a full disclosure and an independent inquiry. He urged the Speaker to allow a discussion on the matter, arguing that the public has a right to know the facts surrounding the DGP’s suicide.
The allegation triggered a storm of protest from opposition legislators, who shouted slogans and demanded that the government produce the document. The Speaker called for order, but the debate continued with both sides accusing each other of politicising a tragic event.
Anurag Dhankar, who had served as Tripura’s DGP for several years, was found dead in his residence earlier this month, and initial reports described the death as a suicide.
