Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced that Mizoram will pursue official recognition as both a Silk Capital and a Winter Capital to boost the state's textile sector and tourism.

The Mizoram government, led by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, has signalled its intention to obtain two distinct promotional titles – Silk Capital and Winter Capital – for the state. The move is part of a broader strategy to showcase Mizoram's economic and cultural assets.
The Silk Capital tag would foreground the state's expanding sericulture and handloom sector, which has benefited from recent farmer outreach programmes and state subsidies. Officials say the label could open new markets for locally produced silk and create additional income for rural communities.
Simultaneously, the Winter Capital designation is aimed at positioning Mizoram as a premier winter‑time tourist destination. The state's cool climate, rolling hills and seasonal festivals are expected to attract domestic and foreign visitors during the colder months.
State authorities plan to submit detailed proposals to the central ministries overseeing tourism and textiles, while also earmarking funds for infrastructure upgrades such as road improvements and targeted marketing campaigns.
If approved, the dual tags are projected to draw investment, generate employment and raise Mizoram's profile on the national and international stage.
