Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force arrested a senior Maoist commander in West Bengal, ending a four‑decade manhunt and recovering a ₹1 crore reward.

Kolkata Police’s Special Task Force (STF) announced the arrest of a senior Maoist leader in West Bengal, marking the end of a 40‑year-long pursuit. The operation took place in the state’s jurisdiction, with officials confirming that the suspect had been evading law‑enforcement for four decades.

Authorities recovered a bounty of ₹1 crore that had been announced for information leading to the leader’s capture. The reward, held by the STF, underscores the high priority the security agencies placed on dismantling the Maoist network in the region.

The arrested individual is described as a top commander who played a pivotal role in the insurgent group’s activities across eastern India. Police officials said the seizure will deal a significant blow to the organization’s command structure and that further investigations are underway to identify additional associates.
