Three teenage sisters from Pipora village in Chhatarpur district died early Thursday after severe vomiting following a dinner of eggplant bharta and roti, prompting a post‑mortem and food‑sample investigation.

A family in Pipora, a village in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, reported that three of its daughters fell ill after dinner on the night of Tuesday. The meal consisted of eggplant bharta served with roti. By early morning on Wednesday, the girls began vomiting repeatedly and their condition rapidly deteriorated, leading to their deaths.

The parents, who were asleep after the meal, were awakened by the children's distress and could not revive them despite immediate attempts to provide first aid. Neighbours described the scene as heartbreaking, with the grieving parents wailing for hours.

Local authorities arrived promptly, secured the bodies, and ordered a post‑mortem to determine the cause of death. Simultaneously, a team from the district health department began collecting samples of the leftover food for toxicological analysis.

The incident has raised concerns about food safety in rural households, prompting officials to remind residents of proper cooking and storage practices to prevent accidental poisoning.
