Following a series of stray‑dog attacks on pupils, ten schools in Uttarakhand have been shut and teachers instructed to shift to virtual classes.

The education department of Uttarakhand announced the closure of ten schools after multiple incidents in which stray dogs attacked children on school premises. The attacks, reported across several districts, prompted immediate safety concerns among parents and officials.

In response, the state authority directed all affected institutions to suspend physical classes and move to online teaching until the situation is assessed and adequate security measures are put in place. The directive also includes a call for local administrations to intensify stray‑animal control and improve campus fencing.

Parents have been advised to keep children under supervision and report any stray‑animal sightings to the police. The department will monitor the situation closely and may extend the online mode if the threat persists. No serious injuries have been reported so far, but the precautionary steps aim to prevent any escalation.
