Bhopal recorded 43 new swine‑flu infections in September, taking the state’s tally to 65 this year, and reported its first fatality – an 80‑year‑old man.

The Bhopal health department confirmed that 43 additional patients tested positive for H1N1 influenza over a 13‑day period in September, pushing the cumulative count of confirmed cases in the city to 65 for 2024. Health officials have already examined 232 samples that were initially flagged as suspect, narrowing the spread to a focused cluster of confirmed infections.

The surge follows a gradual rise in respiratory illnesses across Madhya Pradesh, prompting local hospitals to intensify screening and isolation protocols. Doctors warned that the virus remains highly transmissible, especially among the elderly and those with pre‑existing conditions.

The season’s first death was recorded when an 80‑year‑old resident of Old Minaal succumbed to complications from the infection. Authorities have urged residents to seek immediate medical attention for flu‑like symptoms and to adhere to preventive measures such as vaccination and hygiene practices.
