The Central Bureau of Investigation’s Anti‑Corruption Bureau in Jabalpur has taken senior West Central Railway Section Engineer Ajayveer Singh into custody. The arrest was made at New Katni Junction, where Singh was posted as a senior section engineer.
According to the CBI, Singh accepted a cash payment of Rs 45,000 in exchange for ensuring that thirty railway employees retained their positions. The alleged bribe was purportedly offered by individuals seeking to protect the jobs of these staff members.
Investigators said the transaction was uncovered during a routine probe into corruption within the railway’s recruitment and posting processes. Singh now faces charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act and could be tried for criminal conspiracy.
The CBI has not disclosed further details about the investigation, but officials indicated that the agency will continue to pursue similar cases to curb corruption in the rail sector.
