The Karnataka High Court has quashed a cruelty case filed against a Hosapete-based politician, ruling that the allegations did not satisfy the legal threshold for prosecution.

The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a cruelty case that was filed against a politician based in Hosapete. The case stemmed from the politician’s wife, who has been married nine times since 2004, and who alleged that the politician had subjected her to cruelty. The complainant also claimed that the marriage certificates of her former husbands were forged.

Justice M. Nagaprasanna delivered the judgment, stating that the evidence presented did not meet the legal standards required for a prosecution under the relevant statutes. The court found that the allegations lacked sufficient corroboration and were not credible enough to sustain a criminal case.

With the dismissal, the politician is no longer under criminal investigation for the alleged cruelty. The court’s decision underscores the necessity of robust evidence before proceeding with criminal charges in matrimonial disputes.

The ruling is expected to bring closure to the case, allowing the parties to move forward without the burden of a pending criminal proceeding.
