A second H1N1 infection was confirmed in Indore, prompting the health department to set up a dedicated ward after private hospitals refused to admit the patient.

Indore health officials confirmed a second case of H1N1 swine flu this week, raising concerns after a recent fatality linked to the virus. The patient, a woman, was initially turned away by several private hospitals, which cited capacity constraints and infection‑control concerns. She was later taken to a public facility near Geeta Bhawan where she was admitted for treatment.

Following the refusal, the state health department ordered the creation of a dedicated isolation ward at M.Y. Hospital. The ward is equipped with negative‑pressure rooms and staffed by clinicians trained in managing influenza‑like illnesses. The department has also issued an alert to all medical establishments in Madhya Pradesh to monitor symptoms and report suspected cases promptly.

The recent death earlier in the week, also attributed to swine flu, has intensified calls for heightened surveillance and public awareness campaigns. Authorities are urging residents to seek early medical attention if they experience fever, cough or respiratory distress, and to follow preventive measures such as hand hygiene and avoiding crowded places.
