The Meghalaya government has approved a Rs 9.4-crore indoor sports complex for Williamnagar, aiming to boost local sports facilities.
The state government of Meghalaya has sanctioned a Rs 9.4-crore project to construct an indoor sports complex in Williamnagar. The facility will be built on land allocated by the district administration and is expected to be completed within the next two years.
The complex will house a range of courts and training areas, including provisions for badminton, basketball, and table tennis, as well as a gymnasium and spectator stands. Officials said the venue is intended to provide year-round training opportunities for athletes from the region and to host state-level competitions.
Local authorities anticipate that the new infrastructure will encourage greater participation in sports among youth, create short-term construction jobs, and stimulate ancillary businesses such as coaching services and equipment supply.
