Around 270 Rabha families have appealed to the Assam government to rebuild a historic namghar in Meghalaya that is over a hundred years old.

Around 270 families belonging to the Rabha community have formally urged the Assam government to undertake the reconstruction of a namghar that stands in Meghalaya and dates back more than a century. The appeal highlights the deteriorating condition of the structure, which holds religious and cultural significance for the local community.
The namghar, a traditional prayer hall used for congregational worship and community gatherings, is considered a heritage landmark by the Rabha people. Its age and architectural features reflect the historical ties between the community and the region.
In their plea, the families have requested immediate assistance from the Assam administration, citing the urgent need for repairs to prevent further decay. They hope that state resources will be mobilised to restore the site to its former condition.
As of now, the Assam government has not issued an official response, and the families continue to seek concrete action to preserve the historic place of worship.
