The National Conclave on Tribal Languages and Museums convened in Mysuru to focus on the development and preservation of tribal museums across India.
Mysuru, Karnataka – Leading scholars, museum curators, language experts and representatives of tribal communities gathered for the National Conclave on Tribal Languages and Museums. The three‑day event, hosted in Mysuru, placed tribal museums at the centre of its agenda, seeking ways to strengthen their role in preserving indigenous heritage.
Participants examined the current state of tribal museums, identifying gaps in funding, documentation and visitor engagement. Sessions highlighted the importance of integrating tribal languages into exhibit narratives to enhance authenticity and community ownership.
The conclave concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at government bodies, cultural institutions and NGOs, urging coordinated efforts to upgrade museum infrastructure, develop multilingual interpretive materials and promote research on tribal art forms.
Organisers indicated that the deliberations will feed into a national policy framework for tribal museums, with a follow‑up workshop planned later this year to monitor implementation.
