Photographs from a road‑filling ceremony in Devsar, Singrauli show MP Dr. Rajesh Mishra digging soil while wearing shoes, prompting Congress leaders to question the breach of religious customs.
During a road‑filling (भूमिपूजन) event in Devsar, Singrauli, MP Dr. Rajesh Mishra was photographed actively digging soil while wearing shoes, a sight that is uncommon in traditional Indian ceremonies where participants usually remain barefoot.
The images quickly circulated on social media, leading to a public debate. A Congress councilor seized the moment to criticize the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that the MP’s attire violated established religious and cultural norms associated with such rituals.
Party officials and local supporters defended Mishra, stating that the focus should remain on the infrastructure work rather than attire. The episode highlights the sensitivity surrounding symbolic practices in public events and the political capital they can generate.
