The Indian monsoon this week shows a stark contrast, with several states experiencing intense downpours while others endure humid, scorching conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a pronounced shift in the monsoon pattern today, with the system delivering heavy rainfall to the western and southern belt while the interior and northern regions remain under humid heat.

States such as Maharashtra, Karnataka and parts of the Western Ghats recorded widespread showers, prompting local flood alerts and temporary disruptions to road and rail services. In contrast, areas like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and the plains of Uttar Pradesh experienced high humidity coupled with temperatures hovering near the seasonal peak.

Agricultural zones in the rain‑hit regions are seeing a short‑term boost in soil moisture, but the sudden downpours have also raised concerns about waterlogging in low‑lying fields. Meanwhile, the heat‑stricken zones face heightened risk of heat stress for laborers and a possible rise in water demand.

The IMD cautioned that the monsoon will continue to oscillate over the next few days, urging residents to stay updated with local weather advisories and to take precautionary measures against both flooding and heat‑related ailments.
