Mohammed Shami retires from Test cricket; Morkel calls it a sad day

Mohammed Shami confirmed his decision to step away from Test cricket, ending his tenure in the longest format of the game. The announcement was made shortly after India’s recent series, marking the conclusion of a career that saw him become a mainstay of the national pace attack.

Former South African fast bowler Morné Morkel responded to the news, describing it as a "sad day" for the cricketing world. He praised Shami for his relentless work ethic, his ability to generate pace and swing, and his contributions to India’s overseas successes.

Shami’s departure leaves a noticeable gap in India’s bowling line-up, as he has been instrumental in several key victories. Fellow players and fans alike have taken to social media to acknowledge his impact and wish him well in his post‑Test endeavors.

The cricketing fraternity expects Shami to continue playing limited‑overs formats, but his exit from Tests marks the end of an era for a bowler who combined aggression with consistency on the field.
