The Chief Minister of Meghalaya has launched the ‘Ki Dienjat’ programme aimed at exploring historical and cultural links between the Khasi and Jaintia tribes and Southeast Asian communities.

The Chief Minister of Meghalaya inaugurated the ‘Ki Dienjat’ initiative on Tuesday, announcing plans to research and promote the historical connections between the Khasi and Jaintia peoples and their counterparts in Southeast Asia.

During the launch, the CM highlighted the shared cultural heritage, linguistic similarities, and trade ties that have existed across the Bay of Bengal for centuries. He said the programme would involve academic exchanges, cultural festivals, and joint tourism projects.

Officials expect the initiative to boost regional cooperation and create new opportunities for people‑to‑people contact. The government will also seek funding from central ministries and international partners to support research and outreach activities.

The launch event was attended by tribal leaders, scholars, and representatives from the Ministry of External Affairs. The CM expressed confidence that ‘Ki Dienjat’ would strengthen Meghalaya’s position as a cultural bridge between India and Southeast Asia.
