Lalu Prasad Yadav blames Centre, state for Bihar’s chronic flood crisis

Senior leader Lalu Prasad Yadav launched a sharp criticism of the Union and Bihar governments, saying their inadequate flood‑management measures have left the state perpetually vulnerable. Speaking at a press conference in Patna, he highlighted the recurring inundation of districts such as Begusarai, Khagaria and Saharsa, which has displaced thousands and disrupted agriculture. Yadav urged the Centre to allocate additional funds for embankment reinforcement, early‑warning systems and relief operations, while accusing the state administration of bureaucratic delays. He called for a joint task force to oversee a comprehensive flood‑control strategy, warning that continued inaction could deepen the humanitarian crisis. The remarks come as monsoon rains intensify, prompting officials to brace for further water‑related emergencies.

In response, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Water Resources said the government is reviewing flood‑mitigation projects but declined to comment on Yadav’s specific accusations. The Bihar chief minister’s office also issued a brief statement, asserting that ongoing works on river‑bank protection are on schedule. Both sides have pledged to monitor the situation closely as the monsoon season progresses.
