Heavy rains in Kerala have resulted in 15 fatalities and 7 missing persons, while relief camps have been set up to accommodate thousands of displaced residents.
Heavy rainfall over the past week has devastated large parts of Kerala, causing widespread flooding and landslides. The state’s western districts, including Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam, have reported the highest number of casualties. Officials confirmed 15 deaths and 7 people are still missing, many of whom were trapped in low‑lying areas.
In response, the Kerala government has established relief camps across affected districts. These camps provide food, water, and temporary shelter for more than 10,000 displaced families. Local NGOs are also assisting with medical supplies and emergency services.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has activated its emergency response plan and is coordinating with the National Disaster Response Force. Rescue teams are conducting search operations in remote villages, while the police have set up checkpoints to prevent looting.
Authorities urge residents to stay alert for further rainfall and to follow evacuation orders. The state has also requested additional resources from the central government to support ongoing relief efforts.
