The Karnataka government has unveiled a new bill that seeks to regulate how public spaces are used across the state. The draft, which was tabled in the legislative assembly last week, outlines guidelines for the use of parks, roads, and other communal areas.

The bill proposes a framework for obtaining permits, setting usage hours, and enforcing penalties for unauthorized gatherings. Proponents argue that the measure will reduce congestion and improve safety in crowded venues.

However, the bill has drawn sharp criticism from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Both groups contend that the legislation infringes on citizens’ freedom of assembly and could be used to suppress dissent.

Lawmakers have said the draft will be revised after consultations with civil society. The debate is expected to continue in the coming weeks as the government seeks to balance public order with individual rights.
