Ahead of Diwali, Jaipur’s food safety department destroyed 520 kg of cheese and launched inspections of supplies to major hotels.

The Rajasthan Food Safety Department in Jaipur ordered the destruction of 520 kilograms of paneer on the eve of Diwali, citing concerns over its quality. The move comes as authorities aim to prevent the consumption of potentially unsafe dairy products during the festive season.

Officials have begun a systematic audit of paneer supplies to several large hotels in the city. Samples of paneer and mawa collected from distributors are being sent to accredited labs for detailed analysis, with results expected to clarify the extent of any contamination.

The department warned consumers to verify the source of dairy items before purchase and assured that any sub‑standard products will be removed from the market. The crackdown underscores the government's heightened vigilance over food safety during major celebrations.

Local hotel owners have expressed cooperation, stating that they will provide full documentation of their supply chains. The food safety officials said they will continue monitoring until the Diwali celebrations conclude.
