Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Shramik Annapurna meal centres in Ahmedabad, a government initiative aimed at providing affordable meals to workers.
The ceremony was held in Ahmedabad where Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel officially opened the first Shramik Annapurna meal centres. The centres are part of a state‑run scheme designed to offer low‑cost, nutritious meals to daily‑wage labourers and other vulnerable workers.
The initiative seeks to address food insecurity among the working poor by setting up kitchen facilities that serve meals at subsidised rates. It is expected to operate on a self‑sustaining model, with modest fees covering a portion of the costs while the balance is funded by the Gujarat government.
During the inauguration, the chief minister highlighted the administration’s commitment to social welfare and emphasized that the Shramik Annapurna programme will be expanded to other districts if the pilot in Ahmedabad proves successful.
The new centres are located near industrial zones and transport hubs to ensure easy access for the target beneficiaries. Officials said the scheme will be monitored closely to maintain quality and affordability.
The launch reflects Gujarat’s broader effort to strengthen safety nets for low‑income groups, complementing existing schemes in health, education and housing.
