The Jabalpur High Court released drug seller Rajesh Sony on bail in the case linked to the death of 24 children from contaminated cough syrup in Chhindwara.

The Jabalpur High Court on Thursday granted bail to Rajesh Sony, a pharmaceutical dealer accused of supplying the cough syrup that was linked to the deaths of 24 children in Chhindwara district. The tragic incident, which sparked a nationwide outcry, has been under investigation for alleged negligence and violation of drug safety norms.

In its order, the court noted that the petitioner had cooperated with the investigation and that no fresh evidence suggested a direct role in the manufacturing of the contaminated product. Accordingly, the bench allowed his release on bail, subject to the usual conditions.

During the same hearing, the bail petition filed by Dr. S.S. Thakur, another accused in the case, was withdrawn by his counsel and consequently dismissed by the court. The withdrawal does not affect the ongoing probe into the broader supply chain.

Authorities have affirmed that the investigation will continue, and all accused will remain under scrutiny until the final judgment is delivered.
