Indore municipal bypolls in Wards 58, 60 postponed over voter‑list errors

By‑elections for Indore municipal wards 58 and 60 have been put on hold after complaints of discrepancies in the voter list, pending a physical verification.
Indore municipal corporation’s by‑elections for Ward 58 and Ward 60 were suspended after several voters raised concerns about anomalies in the electoral roll. The Election Commission of India issued a notice halting the polling process until the issues are resolved.
The commission has ordered a ground‑level verification of the voter list, to be overseen by a retired Indian Administrative Service officer. The verification exercise will involve physically checking the names and addresses of registered voters in the two wards.
Only after the verification is completed will a new polling date be announced. Authorities said the step is intended to restore confidence in the local electoral process and ensure that the election results reflect a clean and accurate voter base.
The decision comes as part of broader efforts to tighten oversight of municipal elections across Madhya Pradesh, where civic bodies are under pressure to conduct transparent and fair polls.
