On the day of voting in Rajasthan’s local body elections, an independent candidate in Chidawa was allegedly assaulted, heightening tensions as over 1.87 lakh voters across ten municipal bodies prepare to cast their ballots.
An alleged assault on an independent candidate was reported in Chidawa just before the opening of polling stations for Rajasthan’s local body elections. The incident, which took place shortly before voters arrived, has been described as a politically motivated attack, though details about the assailants remain unclear.
The voting day has seen long queues at numerous polling booths across the district, with citizens exercising their franchise in a largely peaceful environment elsewhere. In total, ten municipal bodies in the district will see 1,87,264 registered voters cast their ballots today.
Local police arrived at the scene promptly, secured the area and launched an investigation into the assault. Officials have urged voters to remain calm and assured that security measures will be reinforced at all polling stations to prevent further disruptions.
Election officials emphasized that the incident, while serious, will not affect the overall conduct of the polls. They reiterated the importance of a free and fair voting process and called on political parties to refrain from any actions that could jeopardise the democratic exercise.
