IMD Issues Storm Alert for Delhi, UP, MP, Bihar as Southwest Monsoon Remains Active

The India Meteorological Department has issued a storm and heavy‑rain alert for Delhi‑NCR and several northern states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, as the southwest monsoon continues.
September’s first week has brought a noticeable dip in morning temperatures across the capital region, while the southwest monsoon remains active over the sub‑continent. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released an alert on 7 September covering Delhi‑NCR and a swath of northern states, namely Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The warning advises of scattered to widespread rainfall, gusty winds and possible thunderstorms during the next 24‑48 hours.
Meteorologists expect the monsoon’s moisture to interact with a low‑pressure system, generating cloud bands that will move eastward from Delhi towards Uttar Pradesh and further into Bihar. Wind speeds could reach 30‑40 km/h in exposed areas, raising concerns for commuters, outdoor work and vulnerable infrastructure.
Authorities have been asked to monitor the situation closely, especially in flood‑prone districts and along riverbanks. While no immediate evacuations have been ordered, the IMD recommends that residents stay updated with local bulletins and exercise caution while traveling.
