A massive blaze erupted at a plastic wholesale outlet in Bilimora, a town in Gujarat's Navsari district. The fire quickly spread across the shop's storage area, consuming stock of various plastic products. Preliminary estimates suggest that the destroyed merchandise is valued between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 10 lakh. Local fire‑fighting teams were dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control after several hours of effort. The incident has raised concerns among traders about safety standards in densely packed wholesale markets.
Authorities have begun an inquiry to determine the cause of the fire and to assess any lapses in fire‑safety compliance. The shop owner, who declined to be named, confirmed the loss of inventory and indicated that business operations would be suspended until the premises are cleared and inspected. The incident underscores the vulnerability of small commercial establishments to fire hazards, especially where large quantities of combustible material are stored.
No official report of injuries or fatalities has been released at the time of writing. The local administration has urged nearby merchants to review their fire‑prevention measures and ensure that fire‑extinguishing equipment is readily accessible.
