Hyderabad police have booked the head of Meta India and several social media users for circulating morphed videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing violations of the IT Act.

Hyderabad police have booked the head of Meta India and a number of social media users for posting and sharing morphed videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The videos, which were widely circulated on platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp, were alleged to have been digitally altered to depict the leader in false contexts.

The police action was taken under provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Indian Penal Code, which prohibit the spread of false or misleading information. Authorities said they had collected evidence of the videos and the individuals involved.

The head of Meta India was booked for allegedly failing to remove the content from the platform in a timely manner. Several users were also booked for their role in disseminating the videos.

The police have stated that a formal investigation will be conducted to determine the extent of the violation and to identify other parties involved. No further statements have been released by Meta India or the users at this time.
