Himachal Pradesh has been recognized as the best-performing state in the national Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 3.0, according to The Times of India.
The national Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 3.0, launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, aims to curb tobacco use among adolescents across India. In its latest assessment, Himachal Pradesh emerged as the top-performing state, achieving the highest score in key metrics such as awareness outreach, cessation support, and community engagement.
Himachal’s success is attributed to a coordinated effort between state health officials, local NGOs, and educational institutions. The state rolled out targeted workshops in schools, launched a mobile app for youth to report tobacco use, and provided free cessation counseling at district health centers.
Experts say the achievement reflects the state's strong public health infrastructure and the government's commitment to youth welfare. The recognition also highlights the effectiveness of community-driven initiatives in reducing tobacco dependence.
The state government plans to replicate its model in other regions and intends to expand the campaign’s digital components to reach a wider audience. The Ministry has pledged additional funding to support similar programs nationwide.
