The Haryana government announced plans to install advanced mobile‑jamming towers in all state prisons, following a pilot project in Ambala that reportedly curbed illicit phone use.

State officials said Haryana will roll out a network of high‑technology towers designed to block mobile signals inside correctional facilities. The move comes after a trial in Ambala district prison showed a marked reduction in unauthorized phone calls by inmates.
The Ambala pilot, launched earlier this year, employed signal‑jamming equipment that created a controlled no‑coverage zone within the prison perimeter. According to the prison administration, the system prevented contraband communication without disrupting legitimate cellular services outside the jail.
The government plans to install similar towers in all major prisons across the state over the next six months. Officials indicated that the technology will be integrated with existing security infrastructure and monitored centrally to ensure compliance with legal standards.
By eliminating the ability of inmates to use personal mobiles, the administration expects to curb criminal networks that operate from inside prisons and improve overall safety for staff and inmates alike.
