A farmer and his son were attacked over a dispute about sheep entering their field in Saglakhho village, Ratlam, resulting in the farmer’s death and the son’s injuries; five shepherds from Rajasthan were later taken into custody.
In the early hours of Tuesday, a physical confrontation erupted in Saglakhho, a village in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh, after a group of shepherds from Rajasthan allowed their sheep to stray into a farmer's cultivated land. The farmer and his son confronted the shepherds, and the disagreement quickly escalated into a violent assault.
Police reports indicate that the shepherds beat both the father and the son, leaving the farmer with severe injuries that proved fatal despite emergency medical treatment. The son sustained serious injuries but survived after being hospitalized.
Following the incident, local police launched an investigation, identified the five shepherds involved, and arrested them on charges of murder, attempted murder and causing grievous hurt. The arrested individuals are being held at the Ratlam police station while further inquiries continue.
Authorities have urged the community to resolve livestock-related disputes through legal channels and have warned that such violent confrontations will attract strict legal action.
The case underscores the tension that can arise in agrarian areas when livestock encroach on cultivated fields, prompting calls for better enforcement of animal grazing regulations.
