Elderly Cattle Herder Killed in Bear Attack in Shahdol’s Keshwari Forest

A 73‑year‑old cattle herder was mauled by a female bear with two cubs in Shahdol’s Keshwari forest and died while receiving treatment at a medical college.
The incident occurred in the Keshwari forest area of Shahdol district, Madhya Pradesh, when 73‑year‑old Chhatra Dhari Sahu was taking his cattle to graze. While he was in the field, a female bear accompanied by two cubs approached and attacked him, inflicting serious injuries.
Sahu was rushed to a nearby medical college where doctors attempted emergency treatment for his wounds. Despite intensive care, his condition deteriorated and he succumbed to the injuries while under medical supervision.
Following the tragedy, officials of the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department issued an advisory urging residents and livestock herders to remain vigilant, avoid solitary grazing in forested zones, and report any bear sightings promptly to prevent further incidents.
