A driver travelling on the Jalandhar-Ludhiana highway was forced at gunpoint to hand over Rs 50,000 and his mobile phone, police said.
Police reports indicate that a robbery took place on the Jalandhar-Ludhiana highway when an armed individual stopped a driver and demanded his belongings. The assailant brandished a firearm, compelling the driver to surrender cash amounting to Rs 50,000 along with his mobile phone.
The incident was reported to local authorities shortly after the driver managed to reach a nearby police outpost. Investigators have opened a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby toll booths and traffic cameras.
Officials have appealed to the public for any information that could help identify the perpetrator, emphasizing that such highway crimes disrupt safe travel across Punjab. The driver, whose identity has not been disclosed, is receiving assistance from the police.
No injuries were reported, and the police continue to patrol the stretch of the highway to deter further criminal activity.
