The Delhi High Court has issued a stay on Jawaharlal Nehru University's decision to dismiss Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who is a Congress MP, following sexual harassment complaints.

The Delhi High Court has temporarily halted the dismissal of Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and a Member of Parliament from the Indian National Congress. The court issued this stay order in response to a legal challenge filed by Akoijam regarding his removal from the university.

The dismissal was initiated after several female students filed sexual harassment complaints against Akoijam. Following these allegations, the university administration conducted an internal inquiry. Based on the recommendations of this inquiry, JNU had previously decided to terminate Akoijam's employment.

In his legal proceedings, Akoijam contested the university's decision, alleging that there were procedural irregularities in the conduct of the internal inquiry. The court's interim order pauses the effect of the dismissal while the matter is under judicial review.

This legal development underscores the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the handling of sexual harassment cases within Indian educational institutions, balancing institutional disciplinary powers with the rights of the accused to a fair process.
