A group of contract faculty members demonstrated at Punjabi University in Patiala, demanding regularisation and higher salaries.
Earlier today, contract teachers gathered outside the main campus of Punjabi University in Patiala to voice their grievances. The faculty members, who are employed on temporary contracts, marched through the university grounds carrying placards that called for regularisation of their posts and a revision of their pay scales.
The demonstrators highlighted the insecurity of short‑term contracts and the disparity between their remuneration and that of permanent staff. They urged the state government and university authorities to address these issues promptly.
University officials were approached for a response. While no official statement was released at the time of writing, the administration indicated that it is aware of the teachers' concerns and is reviewing the demands.
Classes continued with minimal disruption as the protest remained largely peaceful, with participants emphasizing that they seek dialogue rather than confrontation.
