Chief Justice of India Surya Kant inaugurated Bihar's first Victim Rights Centre, urging that justice should extend beyond courtrooms to support the vulnerable and unheard.
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant presided over the launch of Bihar's inaugural Victim Rights Centre (VRC) on Thursday. In his address, he emphasized that the legal system must move beyond the confines of courtroom procedures and actively reach citizens who are vulnerable, lack a voice, or cannot navigate the judicial process on their own.
The VRC, set up under the aegis of the state government and civil society partners, aims to provide legal assistance, counseling, and advocacy for victims of crime and abuse. It will serve as a one‑stop hub where victims can obtain information about their rights, access free legal aid, and receive support in filing complaints.
CJI Kant highlighted that timely and accessible justice is essential for maintaining public confidence in the judiciary. He urged law enforcement agencies, legal professionals, and NGOs to collaborate with the centre to ensure that the most marginalized sections of society are not left behind.
