Chandigarh Lawyer Arrested After Shooting Woman in Face During Eviction Drive

A lawyer based in Chandigarh was arrested on Tuesday after police alleged that he fired a shot that struck a woman in the face during an eviction drive at a residential complex. The incident took place in the early hours of the operation, which was being carried out by municipal officials to remove illegal occupants from the premises.

According to the police report, the lawyer, who was present at the site, allegedly used a handgun to shoot the woman, who was identified as a resident of the building. The victim sustained facial injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Chandigarh Police have registered a case under the Indian Penal Code for criminal assault and have detained the lawyer on charges of attempted murder and possession of an illegal firearm. He is currently being held in the district jail pending further investigation.
