The state government of Bihar announced a plan to employ geographic information system (GIS) technology to create detailed maps of routes used by wildlife traffickers.
The initiative, led by the forest department in coordination with the state's wildlife crime control unit, aims to identify hotspots, transit points and cross‑border corridors, facilitating targeted enforcement.
Officials said the GIS database will integrate satellite imagery, field surveys and intelligence inputs, and will be updated regularly to reflect changes in trafficking patterns.
